Galen Cranz’s design portfolio ranges from parks and playgrounds to a house and a bathtub. As a professor of architecture at the University of California-Berkeley and a Ph.D. sociologist from the University of Chicago, her work has also centered on something as simple as the traditional right-angle chair.
Cranz will dive into our culture’s long history with right-angle chairs and the limitations they present in an upcoming ErgoExpo webinar, “The Chair: Rethinking Culture, Body, and Design,” sponsored by Ergotron on May 9 at 2 p.m. EDT/1 p.m. CDT. She’ll also cover chair alternatives such as the lounge, perch and sit-stand solutions.
Carrie Schmitz, Ergotron’s Senior Manager of Human Factors & Ergonomics Research, AOEAS, CHCE, will join in to offer her own tips for leading an active workstyle with the Sit-Stand Switch™, which is often covered on this blog. You can register here for the webinar.
Rethinking standard chairs originates from Cranz’s personal battle with scoliosis. Hear part of her story below:
